Happy New Beer....

Each new year holds promise of peace & prosperity and it's my wish to all that you receive the same during 2013. Beer Bread is one of my favorite comfort foods & there's no better way to welcome the new year than with comfort. Enjoy this recipe which is named for Sheryl Crow's song "All I Wanna Do" found on page 55 of Recipe Records:

3 c. self-rising flour, sifted
1/4 c. sugar
1 - 12 oz. can beer (I prefer Anheuser-Busch products)
1/2 c. melted butter

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl. Add beer & mix gently. Pour batter into greased loaf pan. Pour melted butter on top of batter and bake 1 hour. Cool 10-15 min. before removing from loaf pan.
Slice into cubes and serve with a good dill dip, or just slather it with butter....

Many projects plague my weary brain and as they reach fruition you will undoubtedly be sprinkled with the news of same. Recipe Records the 60's Edition is now available on my website, along with our original Recipe Records cookbook. I am busy putting finishing touches on Recipe Records The Beatles Edition -- 50 recipes for 50 years of The Beatles, so please stay tuned for the February release date.
I'll keep you posted on my new radio shows for 2013 as well.
I love hearing your suggestions for shows, blogs, books, etc. So please email your comments or guest suggestions to me at:  reciperecordsml@aol.com

As I heard John Lennon sing "Another year over..and a new one just begun," I wondered what music John would be enjoying today. I think if John were writing a blog he would rename it a "blurb," because he was eclectically funny that way. Check out this link to a sweet ditty that I think John would "blurb" about:

All I Want For Christmas ....

It is evident each year that my gift requests are usually connected to music (and sometimes food.)  After a few visits at Classic Hits Radio Station WJLT 105.3, it's clear that all I really want is my own radio station.  I don't necessarily want to TALK on the radio ... I merely want to choose what I think the audience should hear.  One day the music lineup might be old school country (Waylon & Willie...)  or my perhaps what I call vintage rock (local indie musicians); punk (the music, not the kids); ALL types of blues music, or perhaps informational guest speakers/programs.  I would mix it up & play whatever the heck I wanted (which would never include a Wilson Phillips Christmas song)  .... I'd only play whatever my eclectic, refined & loyal listeners requested.

Of course I announce this in a mostly joking manner, because I'm not sure if you realize how difficult it is to broadcast & manage a radio station. My friend Maggie was in the radio biz & she saw drastic changes in the field in a very short amount of time. I think most people go into radio because of their passion for music, but it quickly becomes apparent that in addition to having a magnetic personality they must have a passion for WORKING ALL THE TIME.

Recently I've had the pleasure of meeting on-air personalities Johnny Kincaid, Julie Michaels and Dave Westrich at WJLT 105.3 in Evansville, IN.  The trio not only delivers great tunes to their audience, but it's the behind the scene stuff that we are unaware of that endears them to us.  Creating shows/programs, commercials, keeping the city current on all important stuff, pleasing customers, pleasing bosses, and the list continues.  And you wouldn't believe the number of hours that are required of them, did I mention that ??

In the many hours/days/years of transporting children in the car, we used to have a little saying.... if you heard your favorite song on the radio ... it was going to be a good day. Maybe you can say a word of gratitude to the radio folks next time you see them...or send them an email. Like everyone, they enjoy knowing they are pleasing others. Especially at the holidays.  Happy Christmas Radio Rock Stars!
