The Whole Kit-n-Kaboodle

On the next Recipe Records Radio Show, I will have two intelligent, witty, and completely charming authors, Jude Southerland Kessler and Dr. Kit O'Toole as my guests. These esteemed authors have upcoming presentations at Beatles at the Ridge, a fabulous Beatles festival in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. Tune in to hear what the pair has planned for BATR and also hear about their latest projects.

Jude and Kit
(AKA Kit-n-Kaboodle)

Kessler and O'Toole have been "on the road" with their monstrous hit, "The Kit-n-Kaboodle Show." Their shows connect you to the music of The Beatles and fill you in on the history behind all aspects of their career. I feel so intellectual after I listen to their shows! I guarantee you will be mesmerized by their recent show, "John Lennon's Protest Songs: Righteous or Rubbish?" Tune in at this link: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/thejohnlennonhour/2015/08/21/kit-n-kaboodle-john-lennnons-protest-songs-righteous-or-rubbish

Jude Southerland Kessler is the author of The John Lennon Series, which is a 9-volume set of books about John's life, written as a narrative history. Kessler has an extensive background in English and History, prompting her to research and write about beloved John Lennon. Her books contain thousands of footnotes that I can't imagine trying to research. Her attention to detail and accurate information is rare to find in the world of Beatles publications. Please check out her series at:  http://www.johnlennonseries.com/

Well-respected writer and blogger, Dr. Kit O'Toole, recently released Songs We Were Singing: Guided Tours Through The Beatles' Lesser-Known Tracks, which is definitely the book to purchase this year! O'Toole combines her long history of writing for Beatlefan magazine, Showcase Chicago, Goldmine, Something Else Reviews, Blinded by Sound and Cinema Sentries to lead you down the long and winding road of Beatles songs which may have been forgotten by many.

Seth Swirsky's Beatles Stories

Beatles fans have this overwhelming urge to obtain as much knowledge as possible about their beloved band. "Manic-Expressive," Seth Swirsky is no different. Swirsky grew up loving the Fabs, and as an adult he continued the passion. The award-winning author/songwriter was inspired to collect and film the stories of Beatles fans after he was invited to perform at the Cavern Club in Liverpool. He spent the next six years working on his documentary, compiling the "stories" into a brilliant film. The film contains interviews with celebrities such as Sir George Martin, Sir Ben Kingsley, May Pang, Henry Winkler (one of my faves), Brian Wilson, Jim Irsay, owner of the Indianapolis Colts and many more. Swirsky has a talent for getting these delicious tales on film. Additionally, the multi-talented Swirsky has written several books and award-winning songs such as Taylor Dayne's "Tell It To My Heart."

Seth Swirsky & Ringo Starr
Swirsky and his movie will be featured at the "Authors and Artists Symposium," September 18 and 19, 2015, at The Beatles at the Ridge in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas.
The film was completely engaging and I found myself grinning from ear to ear. Brilliant interviews conveyed the "ga-ga" side of big time celebrities who were just as star-struck by The Beatles as you and I.

Jude Southerland Kessler, Swirsky and Jim Berkenstadt
It is a great pleasure to have Seth on my radio show TOMORROW, August 25, at 1:00 p.m. CST. You can listen live or tune in later to hear the archived show. Both can be found at this link:

Animo!

Current media slams us with doom and gloom; isn't it time for an uplifting, refreshing story? Recently, I read a delightful memoir of a gentleman who left Havana, Cuba, at the tender age of seven and built a life in the Bronx with his family. Southern Indiana retired and award-winning professor, Oscar Ozete, penned an engaging memoir of his youth and adult life.
Once in the Bronx, Oscar was the unfortunate target of bullies, ultimately viewing the negative incidents as life lessons that shaped his personality. In NYC he was the "Cuban kid" and in Cuba he was "The Yankee," never feeling accepted in either environment. Ozete's stories of immigrating to the USA after WWII, provide an incredible history lesson filled with colorful stories and recollections.
The memories he shared had me turning the pages in anticipation of the next story. He tells of having a disease while in Cuba at the age of three and was treated and cured with snake venom! Coming to the U.S. was a tremendous adjustment to him socially, geographically and academically. While considered quite bright in Cuba, he was often viewed as "behind" while in U.S. grade school. Oscar skipped a grade in the U.S. and spoke no English. America held many changes the youngster and he soon found American bread and cold milk to be "a turn off!"
Attending college was a goal that seem unattainable at times, but his endurance and ethic pushed him. He became a teacher in Florida in 1960, colorfully telling the story of 14,000 Cuban students that were airlifted to the U.S. for what was called the "Peter Pan Program."
Although he shares hard stories, his persona consistently stays uplifted as he exudes an upbeat attitude with humor.

It is a great pleasure to interview Mr. Ozete on my radio show next week. Tune in to hear his vibrant Animo!

You can listen live, Tuesday, August 18 at 11:00 a.m. CST - or listen to the archived show which posts immediately after the show ends. Same link for either show:

My Music Nugget O' the Day
I knew that Oscar had the element of cool when he asked that we play this song on the radio show (which I'll try to do). It's a well known Cuban patriotic song & it is FAB! Take a listen here:
